DISASTER MANAGEMENT WITH BIOTECHNOLOGICAL INTERVENTION:

9.1  Biotechnological intervention has a major role in evolving disaster management strategies, especially in the rehabilitation of the victim.

9.2   The following measures will help enhance preparedness:

1. A massive tree plantation programme in wastelands through tissue culture

2. Proper selection of tree species

3. Establishment of a good disease surveillance system

4. Ensuring availability of diagnostic facilities

9.3  The following employment generating activities on a decentralized basis will be helpful in rehabilitation of victims:

i)                     Vermicomposting ii)                    Tissue culture based plantation activities iii)         Production units for nutritionally rich food iv)        Animal feed and animal health care v)         Availability of diagnostic tools vi)        Training for the victims in various income generating             activities vii)         Establishing small industrial units
