UNCRD visits Bhubaneswar

UNCRD Director Mr. Kazunobu Onogawa and Ch. Rudra Charan Mohanty, Environment Programme Coordinator, UNCRD visited Bhubaneswar and met with Mayor Mihir Kumar Mohanty & Piyush Ranjan Rout Executive Director of CMAO.

United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD) has been working to promote the following objectives: to serve as a training and research centre in regional development; to provide advisory services in regional development at the request of central/local governments, universities or NGOs; to assist developing countries in promoting the exchange of information, experience, and teaching in regional development; and to assist and cooperate with other organizations, national or international, involved with regional development.

Mr. Kazunobu Onogawa Director UNCRD explained about the activities of UNCRD and forthcoming conference on of Asian Mayors' Policy Dialogue for Environmentally Sustainable Transport scheduled to held on 23-24 April 2007 in Kyoto, Japan.

The objectives of this policy dialogue on EST are:

·         to share experiences related to EST in Asian cities;

·         to discuss and adopt a Mayors' Declaration affirming the Aichi Statement; and

·         to bring greater synergy between national and local levels in an effort to realise the goal of sustainability in the transport sector.

Mr. Kazunobu Onogawa Director UNCRD invited Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation & City Managers’ Association Orissa to participate at the Asian Mayors' Policy Dialogue for Environmentally Sustainable Transport.
