I.E.C Activities The success of Health programmes will always depend upon how the communities respond to it and involve in its implementation Health is a community responsibility. Gathering and community discussion on health problems help people to understand and support each other. Empowering women through Family Welfare programmes is one of the components where a women plays a supportive role in the rural areas for the welfare of the society. Here the role is supported through effective communication skills, motivational techniques and it leads towards social mobilization to achieve the required goals. The SIH &FW, Plays a major role on carrying out the I.E.C activities through out the State within the available Budget. The following strategy is followed:-
All I.E.C activities are carried out in collaboration with and in – co-ordination of other Government organizations and agencies such as Panchayat Raj, Education, ICDS, NGOS for better reach and impact of the Programme.
All types of Media such as Print, electronic, display and traditional media  are utilized for effective implementation of all health programmes.
The design of I.E.C materials such as Booklet, Posters, Leafleats, Radio Zingles, T.V. spots are prepared keeping in view of area specific needs and issues.
Time bound I.E.C interventions and specific communication strategy are followed on protection of Child Health and  reduction of infant and Child mortality.
Training
State Institute of Health & Family Welfare, Orissa is the premier Institute in the sphere of IEC, Training and Health system Research. All those programmes are integrated, & training includes short term courses for planners, programme managers, researchers, health educators in health, hospitals. Amongst the thrust area primary Heath care, Population control, RCH activities, Health administration, management, Finance, Hospital management, different categories of Skill Development Training and Special Skill Development Trainings, Training on Skilled Attendance at Birth are also included.  With the introduction of new category of training programmes like EMOC, Anesthesia, AYUSH, BPOs, NRHM, these training programmes are taken on priority basis in this Institution. The Institution also has completed seven nos. of Professional Development Training Course for the middle level managers of our District Health Administration. This training programmes are conducted taking the doctors from our State and other neighboring states like Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Andaman & Nicobar Islands. PCPNDT act training for CMO of Orissa, Jharkhand, Chhattishgarh are taken in this Institute. Under NRHM all shorts of training Programmes are taken care of as Collaborating Training Institute (CTI). NIH & FW, New Delhi had declared SIH & FW, Orissa as the CTI (Collaborating Training Institution) for the State of Orissa and it is a Nodal Training Institute for the in-service Health Personnel for the State of Orissa.
