Health Policy Through a planned process since 1947, there has been an expansion in infrastructure and systems for providing health care services throughout Orissa. Orissa has adopted Central Government norms, guidelines, policies and programmes for this development. In recent years, there have been a number of additional statewide initiatives to enhance the reach and quality of health care to improve the health of people. These include the multi disease surveillance system; several measures towards streamlining drug procurement, distribution and rational use of drugs; total risk coverage for five major communicable diseases through the Panchabyadhi Chikitsa Scheme; the Infant Mortality Rate Reduction Mission; mandatory prepost graduate placement of doctors to serve in difficult areas; establishment of district cadres for paramedical staff, among others. More--->

National Rural Health Mission NRHM was launched by the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on 12th April 2005. In Orissa the National Rural Health Mission was launched by Chief Minister, Sri. Naveen Patnaik and Union Health Minister, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss on 17th June 2005. NRHM seeks to provide effective healthcare to rural and urban population throughout the state with special focus on the backward districts with weak human development and health indicators especially among the poor and marginalized groups like women and the vulnerable sections of the society. NRHM seeks to integrate health with the determinants of health for which intersectoral convergence between departments like PRI, WCD, RWSS and Education is essential.  More--->

Orissa Telemedicine Telemedicine activities were initiated in Orissa in the year 2001 with support from Department of Information Technology, Govt. of India and Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow. Subsequently in the same year ISRO/Dept.of space, Govt. of India came forward with an offer to establish a Telemedicine Network in the state of Orissa. Govt. of Orissa accepted the offer of ISRO and provided necessary infrastructural and manpower support.   More--->

Public Private Partnership :To address emerging need of health, new forms of action are needed. There is a clear need to break through traditional boundaries within government sectors, between governmental and non-governmental organizations, and between the public and private sectors. Cooperation is essential this requires the creation of new partnerships for health on an equal footing between the different sectors at all levels of governance in societies.   More--->
