The piece rated minimum wages are in the process of revision.

80 Child Labour Schools are being opened in Cuttack and Balasore districts of the State for rehabilitation of child labourers under 2 NCLPs sanctioned by Government of India during current year.

Recruitment Rallies is being conducted by Director Employment, Orissa at Army Branch Recruiting offices at Bhubaneswar, Berhampur and Sambalpur for entry of Orissa boys into Defence Service.

Pre-examination coaching to Orissa boys and girls is being provided for entry into Defence Service.

Present Level of activities :-

The Labour Laws (24 in nos) are enforced for maintaining industrial peace and harmony.

83 kinds of employments have been brought within the fold of minimum wages which have been revised from 1.5.99 as follows :-

Unskilled - Rs. 40/- per day.

Semi skilled - Rs. 48/- per day.

Skilled - Rs. 56/- per day.

Highly skilled - Rs. 64/- per day.

Contract Labour has been prohibited in 33 trades of 5 undertakings.

As per Supreme Court decision on 10.12.1996, a Child Labour survey was conducted in the State. 2.15 lakhs of child labourers were identified by May, 1997. The G.O.I. Ministry of Labour has sanctioned 18 National Child Labour Projects for rehabilitation of child labourers in 18 districts of the State. Under this Project 513 child labour schools have been opened & 30,294,94 child labourers are admitted in the Schools. The concerned Collectors are supervising implementation of these Projects.

Special drive has been taken through District Administration and field functionaries of P.R. Department to check the exploitation of migrant workmen at the stage of recruitment by the middleman. The migrant workmen are made aware of their rights at the place of employment and authorities to be complained to in case of difficulty.

The safety of workers, occupational health hazards in 2564 registered and 533 un-registered factories employing 1,42,510 workers and 1022 registered Boilers in the State are inspected by Chief Inspector of Factories & Boilers from time to time and remedial measures taken.

Full medical care such as out door, indoor specialist consultation, free medicines, dressing, operation, ambulance service, Family Welfare services, aids & appliances for disabled are being provided to 1,44,350 Insured persons and their family members through following institutions of the Department.

Besides expenses for referred cases to Medical College Hospitals and out side the state are also borne by E.S.I. Corporation.

  • Liasioning between the employment seekers and employers in both public and private sector establishment.
  • registering eligible persons.
  • sponsoring candidates to employers.
  • enforcing provisions under the CNV (compulsory Notification of vacancies) Act and Rules by way of inspection of records of employer.
  • promoting awareness of employment potential among prospective candidates through the following field functionaries.

Besides Vocational guidance is given through career talks at educational & training institutions.

Model career corners in 12 women colleges and 10 girls high schools in tribal and back ward districts of the state has been opened to provide employment guidance to women candidate.

Intensive pre-coaching provided to women candidates to appear S.S.B. interview and 9 women candidates selected.

Pre-recruitment coaching to SC & ST Orissa boys for entry into defence service given in 18 districts and 1393 boys selected.
