CITY ROADS:-

            The City houses about 1400 Kms of roads out of which 915.64 Kms of roads of different types as given below are under the maintenance of the Corporation.

§         Metalled Road                -       181.74 Kms.

§         Un-metalled Road           -       67.66 Kms.

§         Earthen Road                 -      51.86 Kms.

Ø      Roads under NHAI                              -  35.00 Kms.

Ø      Other Roads                                      -  32.00 Kms.

 

The Corporation has undertaken a major drive since 2004-2005 to improve the City roads. A budget provision has been made during the current year (2005-2006) for repair/renovation of roads and construction of new roads. Cement Concrete Roads are being undertaken in Water Logged area for greater life of roads since 2004-2005. B.M.C has undertaken more than 700 nos. road projects and further 150 nos. projects are proposed to be taken up and completed during the current year.

CITY DRAINAGE SYSTEM.

 

   The Storm water drainage system of the Corporation area mainly consist of 10 Nos. main drainage channels(natural nallahs). About 500 Kms. of arterial/branch  internal drains of various sizes and types, mainly open drains of relatively smaller section and Spreaded over 47 Nos. wards discharge storom waters into the above 10 Nos. main drainage channels which discharge into Gangua Nallah.

*Major core Area Drains Drainagechannel numbers 4,5,6,7 and10 constitute core area drains having catchment area of about 40 Sq.km

*Major Sub-Urban Area   

 Drains. Drainage Channel Numbers 1,2,3,8 &9 are existing on the periphery of the City having a total catchment area of about 47 Sq,km,

The internal drain are being maintained by the Corporation, whereas 10Nos. main drainage channels are under the control of Water Resources Deptt. , Govt.of Orissa.Absence of drainage system in many areas of the Corporation results in water logging during rainy season and because of funds constraint BMC has so far not been able to provide drainage system in many water logged areas. But the Corporation has been keen enough to provide road side drains in many of its area and more than 200 nos. projects have been under taken since 2004-05 for repair/renovation/new construction of drains. A budget provision of Rs.5.00 Crores has been made by the Corporation during the current year (2005-06) to strengthen the drainage system of this city.
