1            Coastal Geomorphology study.

 Under the sponsorship of Government of India’s Ministry of Environment and Forest, identification of coastal geomorphic feature and their effects on the land use, environment and socio-economy of the people in the area were studied.  In the process, an area of 1885 Sq.Kms was mapped and samples were collected for analytical purpose.  The project is continuing.  

  2           Geo-Technical Investigation.

 The Geo-Technical Investigation was taken up in Nayagarh and Ganjam districts at the behest of National Water Development Agency (N.W.D.A.) for the Mahanadi Godavari link project.  For the purpose 425 m. of drilling and adequate number of field parameters study was achieved.  The project is a continuing one.  

  3            Geo-Environment study.

 Environment impact assessment and environment management study in the Mining belts in Joda-Barbil sector was taken up. The data acquired are under analysis for suggesting remedial measures to be adopted by the Mining agencies in the area.  

  4            Development of Data base on natural resources information, system (NRIS)

 As a diversified project creation of NRIS data was taken up in parts of Nuapada district, Dhenkanal district and Sambalpur district. In the process 365 Sq.Km area was covered under geological mapping and sufficient data on natural resources in the area have been generated for the use of developmental planning at Panchayat levels.  

  5            Geophysical Investigation.

 Geophysical Investigation has been carried out in different parts of the State on commercial basis for recommendation to the users about the feasible sites of bore wells. Besides Geophysical e-logging was carried out on requisition from private agencies in the bore wells for their further development.  During the fiscal about 39 feasible sites have been suggested through the process.

         A sophisticated gem testing laboratory functioning at Bhubaneswar is engaged in characterization of gemstone collected through Directorate’s investigation parties as well as the seized materials provided by the State police and samples received from the public on payment basis.

         The other laboratories such as Petrological Laboratory, Research Laboratory, Ore dressing laboratory, Granite Cutting and Polishing Laboratory and Zonal Chemical Laboratories are engaged in analyzing and characterizing rock and mineral samples generated by this Directorate.
