About the department

NEW INITIATIVES

• Establishment of 4 Model Residential Schools from Class VI to Class XII to impart quality education to tribal students in the district of Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Koraput and Rayagada in the pattern of Navodaya Vidyalaya. There institution will be managed by Orissa Model Tribal Education Society (OMTES).

• Establishment of Grain Banks to prevent starvation death, child mortality by way of providing food grain assistance during lean season.

• Establishment of 400 Primary Level Girls Hostel for Scheduled Tribe Girls in order to check the dropout rate amount the Scheduled Tribe Girls.

    The following Schemes of Grants-in-Aid to Voluntary Organizations of the Central Government as well as State Government are being implemented through Govt. in this Department. 

• Ministry of Tribal Affairs

1. Grants-in-Aid to Voluntary Organization working for the welfare of Scheduled Tribes.

2. Central Sector Scheme for the development of Primitive Tribal Groups.

3. Educational complexes in low literacy pockets for ST girls

• Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment

1. Grants-in-Aid to voluntary organizations working for the welfare of Scheduled Castes.
2. Grants-in-Aid to voluntary organizations working for the welfare of Other Backward Classes.
3. Scheme of Pre-examination coaching for Other Backward Classes.

• State Government

1. Grants-in-Aid to NGOs for welfare of SCs/STs out of the funds of the State Government.

2. Grants-in-Aid to NGOs out of the funds provided under Centrally Sponsored Plan Scheme. Commonly known as PCR Grant.

HOLDING OF ANNUAL ADIVASI EXHIBITION :

An Annual Adivasi Exhibition is held in the Adivasi Exhibition Ground, Unit – I, Bhubaneswar, Orissa from 26^th January for a week depicting the lifestyle and culture of the tribal besides display and sale of various agricultural produces like turmeric, lentils, hill brooms etc. Cultural shows like tribal dances, dramas are held in the exhibition with the tribal participating in their traditional attires and musical instruments. The exhibition draws a huge crowd who get to know immensely about the rich tribal culture besides purchasing various articles.
